Most banks will take care of everything over $50 if someone ganks your
debit card and has a shopping spree.
If you get a debit card, get a Visa or Mastercard one. A lot of places
that will take American Express credit cards won't take American
Express debit cards. Weird, but true.
Balancing a checkbook can become a nightmare because debit cards are
easier to use than checks, and you won't always have your checkbook with
your debit card. It's easy to just walk around and drain your account.
You can bounce a checking account with a debit card. You have been warned.
