License To Hack
File this under really awful ideas: A congressman believes copyright
holders
should have the legal right to maliciously hack into your computers even
if they
as much as suspect you're pirating their work.

An interesting article.
Quoting it:
"But I repeat: It's a truly awful idea. And not just because it would
give a little moral justification to every overgrown juvenile delinquent
who believes that "if it's OK for big movie studios to break into
someone else's computer, then it's OK for me, too." "
Forget moral justifications. The problem looks much more profound.
*Anyone*, including delinquents, will be given a /carte blanche/ to hack
anyone else by doing just a few simple steps:
1) set up a Web server with original copyrighted content;
2) wait for Berman's bill to pass;
3) change your Web site license to more restrictive;
4) hack away all your Web site's visitors under a pretense that your
copyrighted pages may now be cached on their hard drives...
Piece of cake. No prosecution. Go Berman! :(
