I also have a Deskpro system; this is currently functioning as a web
server running Red Hat 7.3 at the moment. This machine runs SCSI drives
(HDD / CD-ROM) with no problems and the integrated NIC seems to be very
well supported. I did have to go through a diagnostic partition setup
and install the setup utilities. Change the APM settings a bit so it
wouldn't go to suspend mode. Other than that I have had no issues.

compaq (was: connecting a compu ter to a sound system)
I fixed up a Deskpro system that I got off of ebay this spring. I was
able
to run FreeBSD, debian and Mandrake 8.1, without too much trouble, on
it. I
did have an adventure when I tried to add an old 4 GB drive that I had
lyng
around. it coughed on boot and wrote 07 to the screen repeatedly. I was
able
to take the orginal drive out and install only the 4GB drive, but it
wouldn't take both! I didn't try to get into the BIOS but after I got it
to
boot from the new drive I didn't care to get in any deeper.
