I rank older Compaq's right up there with Pac Bells on the "don't even 
think about asking me to fix that" scale...
Between the funky proprietary stuff (CMOS batteries soldered onto the 
mb, weird ass key combinations or a special floppy to get into BIOS, 
etc) and just plain crappy performance, I wouldn't have a Compaq older 
than a year or two in my house. Some of the newer ones are pretty decent 
for non-power users. But if you ever plan on upgrading, I wouldn't spend 
the money on a "name brand" box...I've seen both Dell and Compaq void a 
warranty because non-authorized personell opened the box.
