The ADS Pyro thingie is clearly a 5.25" unit for that reason; I was
only worried about using a 3.5" drive because they hinted at the
cable not being long enough, which sounded...weird.

The first time I installed a CD-ROM drive back in the day, I had to
do it into a box that had non-standard (proprietary even) rails
which I couldn't possibly get. All I can see is that it is
remarkable what you can do with folded up pieces of "tractor edge"
from those old-time tractor-feed line printers. :-)

I sent the query to one of their geeks to make sure. The worry I
had was the OS X 10.1 gotcha, which is a firmware issue. Software
(esp. kids games) can be a hassle under OS X, but I have never had
any problems with anything else, and firewire specifically is
supposed to be very plug-and-play on a Mac. Guess we'll see about
that...
