Thanks to iTunes and iPhoto, (and the gotcha of no free internal
drive bays in an iMac and iBook, I have to admit) we're rapidly
running out of diskspace in our household, so I was looking into
getting an external firewire harddrive. Best prices on those I
could find on those mailorder that didn't come from "Fred's
Hardware" were like $200 for an 80 Gig drive. (Fred serves his up
for $130, but it's a sucky drive and I don't know him.)
On the other hand, you can get an ADS pyro 1394 drive kit (an
enclosure with the firewire interface) for about $100, and then buy
whatever drive you really want (and not just a hard drive; you could
stick a dvd-ram drive in these things). Or you could get other more
generic enclosures for a bit cheaper. Or you could get a
firewire/USB 2.0 combination enclosure for a bit more.
Anybody have any experience or advice on any of these things?
