I'm going off an example (I believe) from Heinlein's "Space Cadet", and as I
recall, 139 was the same answer they got before the teacher told them it was
a trick question. As for long handles, I think you wind up adding more
weight in handle than you're accounting for in manpower. Ropes might be a
loophole, but the original probably accounted for that, so its my fault, not
Heinlein's.
