Well, I've had an experience with bouncing checks that was very clearly the
bank's fault, and they quickly took care of things. I'd written a $3.00 check to
pay an gasoline credit card bill (It was back in 1976, when you could fill up
the tank for $3.00.), and when I'd gotten the statement the next month, it said
that I had $297 credit. And then I started bouncing checks (actually it was just
one, to my auto insurance company). I hadn't checked my bank statement when I
got it, so I dug it out, and found that the $3 check had been encoded $300. I
went back to the bank, and told them that I'd found the problem, and showed them
the cancelled check. They took care of everything, and I didn't even have to
talk to the insurance company.
