For those interested in Unix security and want to take a taste
of hacking without getting in any trouble (actually, if done well
you might get lauded for it) take a look at www.hackerslab.org. It
is a Korean orginzation that has provided a server for hacking with
certain problems setup to test different aspects of hacking (port
scanning, race conditions, smashing the stack). It is pretty
interesting. I'm working on writing a buffer overflow exploit now. While
I've always understood the basic concept of such things, it takes a
little more understanding to actually implement it.
