That's my point, they are ineffective, and only breed animosity towards the

I don't really feel using the word childish in this case is an insult. I
was merely using it to provide him with my perspective of his rant.
As far as hurting Neil's feelings go, I would state that in the time I've
spent here, he has by and far been the most insulting person on the board,
usually in the form of one of those impersonal rants. This isn't the first
time for this rant either. In fact, I believe that the discussion group was
formed as a result of one. (which some may consider beneficial)
Either way, I hardly equate my message as being "just returning an insult".
Also, I feel you are implying that I'm participating in the same type of
impersonal complaining that I accused Neil of. While I may have used a
public forum, I clearly directed the text toward Neil. If my perceptions of
your implications are incorrect, please ignore the previous paragraph.
