Would that be a simple cron job?
Also, the way windows does it that I was refering to is this: a little
bubble pops up in your system tray with a word baloon telling you that you
really ought to get the new update. I like this much better than their old
plan of doing it without asking. It does usually require a reboot though,
even with XP.
