Here is an e-mail exchange that you might find amusing. This guy is
working on a classic confidence game. It's so old that it's just funny.
My first response to him was so silly that you'd think he wouldn't write
back, but he did. So then I started conning him to see what would happen
next. The earliest message is on top. For more on this old con game (the
Nigerian version even), read here:

DR.FRANK,
#22 ZIK AVENUE,
ENUGU-STATE,
NIGERIA-WESTAFRICA

GOOD DAY,

Do not be suprised about my contacting you privately as I got your contact
as a reliable and trustworthy foreigner, therefore I have Urgent need to
contact you for your personal assistance over this confidential bussiness.
I am the manager of United Bank of Africa PLC in Nigeria and I will want
to do quick business with you. There is a dormant account in my bank with
credit balance of $35 Million US dollars(THIRTY FIVE MILLON UNITED STATES
DOLLARS) which has been dormant for 7 year now , on further investigation,
I discovered that the owner of the account, a foreigner died 5 years ago.
What I need from you is to alert your attention and use your name as the
next of kin, then I will use my position as the bank manager and transfer
the $35 Million U S dollars to your account as yours. I will supply you
with all the necessary information if you shall conclude this deal with me
honestly. After the successful remittance of the fund into your account, I
will destroy the entire document involved, including the computer
diskette, both of us will share the money 70-30 ratio. Indicate your
interest so that I will give you detailed information on this issue. Note
that 30 % is for your assistance and coperations.

There is absolutely no risk involved, because the bank management is ready
to welcome and pay any foreigner with the correct information -- as the
account have no official next of kin -- hope you understand. I await your
reply immediately via my personal e-mail address above or

Dr. Frank:

Thank you for sharing your urgent message with me. Your bank is very kind
to offer to give $35,000,000 to me in exchange for one fraudulent e-mail
message! It is good for both of us that they hand out such large sums
without any kind of investigation. I can imagine that having so much
money must be a substantial burden on them, so they are eager to give it
away to a stranger. That makes perfect sense, so I have no reason to be
suspicious of you.

I assume you'll be needing my social security number, my mother's maiden
name and some detailed information about my bank account. Just let me
know. As a show of good faith I have placed $1,000,000 in unmarked $100
bills in a brown paper bag in the dumpster outside my office building. You
should have someone pick it up before it is taken to the dump. Use that
money to tide yourself over until I can deliver to you your 70% of the
$35,000,000 you've promised to send.

If all goes according to plan, let's meet in Monte Carlo on the second
Saturday in June at the casino in l'Hôtel de Paris. I'll be wearing a
black tuxedo, drinking a martini and playing baccarat with a 24-year-old
supermodel on my arm. You'll see my red Ferrari parked outside.

Your loyal partner in crime,

Mike

Dear Dr. Frank:

I hope that I made my sincere interest clear in my earlier message. We
are talking about a large amount of money, so I am eager to get a portion
of it. Of course, this process might entail some risk to me, but it is
wise to risk a few thousand dollars for a chance at so many millions! I
am wealthy enough that I can certainly afford to take chances. It is
great luck for both of us that you managed to find me. Let me know what
you need me to do.

Please reply soon.

Your collaborator,

Mike

Dear Dr. Frank:

You can't imagine how happy I am to have this chance to make millions of
dollars so easily. It is very rare in life that such excellent
opportunities arise.

Following your suggestions, I tried to get in touch with a wealthy
businessman who could work with us. I know several such people, but most
were out of town at this time. The one man I could contact is very
interested in our plan, but there are some problems with this man (his
name is Tom). First, he is quite old and currently retired. In fact, he
has a mild case of Alzheimer's disease which seems to affect his judgment,
but he is still in charge of his own finances (he has no children and his
wife died in 1993) and his impairment has not prevented him from seeing
that your plan is very likely to repay him massively for a very small
investment of his time. The second problem with this man is that he might
not be as wealthy as you need. To conceal $35 million would be difficult.
My friend has only about $10 million or so in assets and no more than
about $1 million in his bank account. I hope that isn't a problem. The
addition of $35 million to his paltry $1 million account will probably
generate some attention. Do you think it will be OK to work with this
man?

Tom and I tried several times to call your number today, but your line was
always engaged when we called, or perhaps we dialed incorrectly. Tom is
eager to get involved, but he wanted to talk with you about his concerns.
He is a skeptical man, almost paranoid, and he would like a show of good
faith on your part. There are several ways that you might prove that you
are being honest with us. For example, you could give us information
about one of your accounts so that we could wire over some small amount of
money, say $1000 (USD), to show us that you are serious about this. I've
tried to talk Tom out of this requirement, but he has been very stubborn.
I'm afraid he'll sink the whole deal if he doesn't get the $1000 from you.

All I will need from you is your bank account information, some blank
invoices and four sheets of your signed stationery. I'm very sorry for
this inconvenience, but it is Tom's demand, not mine.

Regards,

Mike

Dear Dr. Frank:

Of course I'm serious! How could I not be serious about such a large
amount of money. My friend Tom is also serious, but skeptical. He wants
you to provide him access to an account so that he can remove some money
from your account. If he cannot do that, I'm afraid we won't be able to
convince him to participate in our plan and it will fail.

In my last letter I told you that Tom has only $947,336 (USD) in his bank
account (today I checked, but yesterday I told you $1 million) and I was
concerned that it might not be enough to allow you to conceal the
$35,000,000 you need to transfer. Do you think it is a problem that Tom
has only about $1,000,000? You haven't said anything about it. I need to
know what you think. When the $35,000,000 is transferred, won't people be
suspicious of such a large change in his account balance?

Please respond to my questions. Thank you for your continued interest.

Regards,

Mike

Well, that's all folks. He didn't write back again. I guess he'll just
have to live without the millions he could have scammed me for!
