The running time is basically equivalent to your average Hollywood
movie...
Not much else will fit on a single-layer DVD, anyway. I think there may
actually be two seperate video streams, one for English and one for
Japanese, so that comes out to 250 minutes, and then you add maybe 30 for
trailers for other DVDs and you're pushing it even on dual layers. So not
only would they be selling fewer DVDs at higher episode counts, they'd be
incurring additional costs.
The dub-only three-episode Pioneer releases are a rip-off, though.
