I've actually been thinking of building a device with the following mcu, but
who knows.

What you guys are probably thinking about is called "DS-TINI-1" from Dallas
semiconductor.

Its built on a board that is just like a 72 pin SIMM.
Has the following I/O:
    (2) serial ports
    (2) 1 wire net interface
    (2) CAN interface
    (1) 2 wire synchronous serial interface
    10/100 TCP/IP and supports ipv4 & ipv6!
    Flash rom
    512/1M nonvolatile Ram
    3 8bit general purpose I/O ports

What i find interesting is they've designed to be servers that run the Java
SDK natively!!!

While not of you are java fans, i think this is pretty awesome.

quote: "The primary objective of the TINI platform is to give everything
from small sensors and actuators to factory automation equipment and legacy
hardware a voice on the network. This allows the devices to be monitored,
controlled and managed remotely. The combination of broad-based I/O
capability, a TCP/IP network protocol stack and a powerful object-oriented
programming environment empowers programmers to quickly create applications
that provide not only local control of, but also the ability to remotely
manage, TINI-based devices. TINI's networking capability extends the
connectivity of any attached device by allowing interaction with remote
systems and users through standard network applications such as Web
browsers. "

I heard you can get it for $15, but i think that is probably just the chip
and not the whole simm deal...i'll look at it more closely.

I do know for sure that you can get a developers pack with this thing for
$50
