It's a pain in the butt to get anything more than 1200 bps on 2 meters. To
get 9600K, you need a special high-speed modem and mods to the radio. To get
19200, you have to attach the modem directly into the radio - ugly. It's
dang near impossible to get 56K - some brave souls do it, but it looks scary.
And I live in an apartment, and the only way I can do anything useful is to
put a 1.5-meter-long J antenna outside when I need to use the radio. And
that's for something that's transmitting at 5 Watts, with a license. If you
turn those bands into unlicensed ones, they will become useless.
