I certainly believe it for guitar amps. I've owned a Mesa Boogie tube amp
since 1983 and I like it. New solid state amps are probably competitive
though. For stereo amps, I *don't* believe people prefer the tubes.
We have to realize that it is not something that can be decided at *all*
without a properly controlled study. People have prejudices and they
stick with them. If they know what they're hearing, they'll be biased.
If you know of a study of stereo amps that found people preferred the tube
amp, let me know where the results are published and who did the study (I
hope it wasn't a tube-amp manufacturer).
