I use a BX6 rev 2 and really like it - IDE RAID too with coppermine support.

Subject: [MLUG - DISCUSSION] What's a good mobo/cpu combination?

I have this problem. I want to upgrade my mobo/cpu. It's a slow celeron
300a on an abit bx6 (rev.1 so I can't use coppermine), and my budget for the
upgrade is less than $250. I've been looking at the motherboards and stuff
lately, and it looks like the BX chipset is out of production, and Intel's
replacement for it is the i815, which looks like a piece of crap. Only 512
megs of RAM and integrated graphics... yuck. I don't like the alternatives
from VIA, SIS, etc. because AFAIK they are unstable. I am also considering
AMD's platform if it is as stable as Intel. My primary concerns are
stability, cost, and performance. I don't want it unstable or too expensive,
and I don't want it to be too slow, either. I have another computer with an
Abit KT7-RAID with a VIA chipset which is totally unstable, so I don't want
to make another mistake like that. I am planning to run Linux on it. Does
anyone have any suggestions? The review sites seem to be so focused on
overclocking (a stupid hobby, IMO), that I can not find a whole lot of useful
info. Who cares if you can run a 800 mhz celeron at 1 gig when the price
difference is like $10? Thanks.
