But those are the same skit. They guy says that he doesn't want Spam, and
the old lady offers something else that doesn't have quite so much Spam in
it, and the name has a bunch of spams in it, and then the Vikings in the
background start singing spam spam spam spam... Maybe I am just
hallucinating about it having another meaning, and then every one singing
spam spam spam, once it was coined and people figured out how annoying it
was.
How about Sending People Annoying Messages? That spells SPAM.

I certainly do remember it being from the Monty Python skit. I remember when
IU was a fledgling computer user and spent some time on the chat rooms, that
people would actually use the song words, or at least spam spam spam, over
and over again to drive people crazy.

Also there was another skit from Monty Python that dealt with spam, that I
thought was the one they meant though. The skit was the one were the guy was
in the resturaunt and everything on the menu had spam. For Instance, Spam
Spam Spam Baked Beans and Spam, and the guy would yell, "BUT I DON"T WANT
SPAM! Unwanted stuff in your e-mail and chat rooms then turned into Spam,
because no one wants Spam.

That anyway is what I remember.

Actually, I prefer the story you found. I was always told it meant what I
said... And well, that kind of reinforces the idea that it's mystery meat,
which it's not. I always knew it was mostly ham, so that's a good thing. As
far as the Monty Python script thing... That doesn't seam right. I remember
something other than that, but I can't recall it exactly. It seams like it
was some kind of acronym of some kind.... Any one else?

Apparently we get the term 'spam' from a Monty Python sketch in which they
drowned out all other conversation by repeating the word "spam"
Hormel isn't upset, as this is just free advertising for them.

Shoulder Pork and Meat. It's ham, for the most part, from the front shoulder
of the pig. :-)

I'm trying to find where the word "spam" comes from.  Mom asked me last
night what it stood for, and I had always assumed it came from the fact that
email spam was about as enjoyable as cold jell-o meat.
