Well, it's that time of year again: the leaves turn, the days shorten,
and fall Software Engineering (CECS332) students practice divination
to figure out the assigned milestones. If you're not familiar with
the format, groups of ~4 people work on a final project, a home
automation control system using X10 and Java. And as this course
focuses on the interactions with the clients that request the
software, each group must designate a client.
We're looking for somebody in the Columbia area with experience with
home automation systems (doesn't have to be X10) to function/roleplay
as a client desiring such an X10 software system. The time requirement
would be VERY minor - we would basically meet a few times for
lunch at a nice restaurant to talk about the project, and we'll
pick up the tab. If you have an X10 system then as a result of this
project you would get an operational control program, but (fortunately
or unfortunately) it must be written in Java, with OS-specific JNI
interfaces to talk to the X10 code. So it may not be as useful as you
want.
So basically you would apply your HA knowledge to help us determine
what's important in new automation software, and eat out for free at
some Good Places(tm). Reply to me directly if you're interested.
