Why don't you put two Ethernet cards in.. set one up for home
and the other up for when you pack in into the office?
Depending on where your at, put the Ethernet cable in the
corresponding card.
I think you can do that.. somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

I don't know your exact situation, but if you had DHCP and domain logins
at your office location, and a Linux server at home, you'd be ready to
go. It's easy to set a home server up so that DHCP gives your laptop an
IP address and then Samba login connects it to your shared resources,
just like at work :)
If you have to use static addresses, then third-party utilities are a
better solution.
