I don't know your exact situation, but if you had DHCP and domain logins
at your office location, and a Linux server at home, you'd be ready to
go. It's easy to set a home server up so that DHCP gives your laptop an
IP address and then Samba login connects it to your shared resources,
just like at work :)
If you have to use static addresses, then third-party utilities are a
better solution.
