Does anyone else think it's kinda interesting to note
that the August 2001 issue of PC Magazine did a poll
on readers' opinions on different PC companies, and
both HP and Compaq got C's for their efforts? And now,
a month later, we get the two companies teaming up as
one? Oh well, maybe this isn't such a big deal. Maybe
it's just that I read that article in the PCM right
before I hear about this. heh. Personally, I have
nothing good to say about the quality of Compaq's
hardware (especially their cases - Why do I have to
pull out the PCI cards before I can get to my
motherboard?!!), and my girlfriend's HP laptop seems
to be getting slower by the day (and re-formatting the
hard drive doesn't help, so something in there must be
getting overheated). So, I don't really know what the
point was of HP purchasing Compaq. Both companies have
been doing really poorly, so neither company has
anything to gain except size. Seems like to only
benefit from this deal is that the next company that
comes along can now simply purchase both companies in
one single swoop. Ah well, so it goes.
