It would probably cost lawyers since you'd need to sign off on NDAs and
then purchase the source code, which isn't cheap.  Sun made their source
available to the public in the hopes that folks would make apps that worked
better with it.

There is one key element of the IRIX source that's available, and that's 
XFS.  I encourage you to dig through the source if you're interested.
