Try IRIX source code sometime.  That will seriously twist your brain in 
ways you never thought possible.  There's lots of things that are better
implemented in IRIX (like the VFS layer), but all those layers of indirection
and abstraction really throw your cerebreal cortex for a loop.  

Oh, well.  I digress.  Kernel hackers are their own variety of idiot savants.
Usually, they're pretty well insulated in their own little world and don't
seem to know too much outside it.  

Mad C skills.  Does the job come with a free supply of X and raver chix, too?
