That's the problem. They've run out of ports on the DSLAM. I hear the reason
ISDN was so expensive in the area is because the DMS-100 ( the phone
switches GTE (now verizon) uses) has a "Shelf" for ISDN and it's
astronomically priced. The little Nortel ISDN switch Sprint uses is cheap,
and I think that's the same kind of switch South Western Bell uses. I wonder
if the DSLAM that Verizon uses has to be a DMS-100 shelf unit, and if so,
maybe that limits port density and price. Something to think about.

I would not see why it would take soo long to get DSL as long as your relay
station has a DSLAM.  Connecting a DSL modem should not require a tech.  I
know that some areas have self install DSL.
