DDC is how the video card talks with the monitor to determine it's scan
rates, and consequently, turn the monitor off when the machine goes into
standby. Not sure what it means, but most monitors made in the last 3 to 4
years use it. Before that, the monitor would go into standby after seeing a
loss of siginal, and you had to have a list of scan rates for your monitor.
Xfree86 4.0 uses DDC to directly determine it's video timings from the
monitor if possible.

I can get my monitor to power down with DDC.

What's DDC?
My Thinkpad used to sleep and wake up without any problems with the old
kernel (2.2.18, I think), but now that I upgraded to 2.4.2, when it
wakes up it loses the network connection. The network interface goes
down, and I have to bring it up manually with ifconfig or re-insert the
network card. Does anyone know why it is?
