What's DDC?

My Thinkpad used to sleep and wake up without any problems with the old
kernel (2.2.18, I think), but now that I upgraded to 2.4.2, when it
wakes up it loses the network connection. The network interface goes
down, and I have to bring it up manually with ifconfig or re-insert the
network card. Does anyone know why it is?
