The infrastructure here in Columbia is fine. This is long haul fiber, and
some other stuff, not your local loop. Different systems. Your DSL gets cut
if your phone line gets cut, or the connection between Verizon's frame
switch and the university/Tranquility/Socket/DSL Provider De Jour gets cut.
AT&T @ Home stuff? Well, they just bridge all this data traffic back to some
kind of noc with lots of big routers, so it has to travel the large long
haul wires. We are on AT&T @ Home's network, which is national. It's
different than your typical mom'n pop ISP. I think our nearest @ home
internet connection is some Peering point in Dallas or Chicago maybe....

I don't see how that would affect it. I'm on a DSL and my connection is
fine. If anything happened to the phone service, you'd think my DSL line
would be the first thing to go. But, I don't know much about the
communcation infastructure here in Columbia outside of what IATS controls,
so this is the blind leading the blind so to speak.
