Hey! Don't be knockin on da labs. Sure it aint great work, but I get
payed Ok. You learn a little. Like how netware/Nt likes to flake out.
How our network postscripts a job 3 times across the network to get from
NT/Appletalk/Showme through NDPS(Netware) and then through
Woodstock.missouri.edu to be accounted for on a linux box and then
spooled out. How students like to bring webmail to its knees everyday
between 10am and 2pm. Cool utilities like bigbrother.missouri.edu. I
like the convienence of bigbrother but to tell you the truth I think it
takes the job of a hacker to footprint a potential attack and makes it
too easy. You also learn what happens to all your servers (some I think
are made of glass)when you leave the DoS plugin for Nessus enabled when
you run it. Dont get me wrong I think everyone that works for IATS is a
witch doctor that nearly has to dance and chant around the servers
everyday to keep them running (cheers to all, good job). Its amazing
what has to been done to satisfy everyones needs.

If you want an easy job where you get to help people who dont know as
much then be a Consultant. You might need a little more training and
stuff and be a consultant a while to be a support specialist. The only
thing is that I believe you are required to be at least half-time
student to be a consultant. I am a support specialist (nifty title
huh?). I get to carry around a cool radio all day that chirps constantly
(double edged sword though you are always on the move) and do all kinds
of weird stuff, but it is very hectic sometimes. Sometimes I think that
the Sites group are the bastard children of IATS, and alot of times we
really arent respected for being Uber Geek, but hey. Ive been around a
while and I want to move up and learn more. Ive had my eye on Brents old
job for a while now. All I need to do is figure out how to bump off Neil
without Greg noticing :) Uh oh... hes on this list...

Ryan
IATS Site Support Specialist (Yeah thats right..what of it?!?)

Lab Rat being computer lab - site support specialist. I feel for them,
but
it's a great learning experience. When it gets boring though . . .

Yeah, being a student is necessary, and lots of *NIX experience, or web
pages. Preferred Jr/Sr CS major.

I did try to see if I could take Mike's place in the psych Dpt what he
was
doing for them, but i guess Jon just went with IATS instead. (I guess) I
probably wouldn't be as good at mike tho :) (michael that is...)

Hmmm even one of those grant jobs might be cool... do you ahve to be a
student? (I am planning on going back , i swear!) And I was suggested
and
told that the Rat lab people needed help. but i wasn't told who to talk
to. That could be intereting.... (considering i did want to major in
biochemistry....)
I guess i'm really bad about trying to get a job somewhere else. I've
been
working as a nursing assistant for so freakin long (over 3 years) i
doin't
know what else i can do anymore!
