The best way to handle this is to use cdrdao to duplicate the CD.  It'll 
rip the whole cd to one big audio file and generate a TOC.  This way 
goodies such as track pregaps are preserved.  I'll do this even when making 
MP3s.  I'll then MP3 the resulting huge wav file then break the mp3 up 
according to the TOC.  This ensures seamless transitions between songs.
