What I want to see is a search engine for the message threads.
I like the way the mailing list is set up at Coyote-Linux.
Just for an example of a easy to use mailing list.

You already have this in that if you look at the full set of headers in your
message, you'll notice a message id and if it is a reply, usually it will
have
a references id. This allows chaining of replies to create a thread.
Netscape
Mail Reader allows you to group by thread through this.
