[MLUG - DISCUSSION] Following message threads

I wasn't sure where this post belonged, but I figured it wasn't TOO
technical, so...

Has anyone thought of writing an interface that allows following message
threads on the mailing list?  For example, each message would contain a
pointer to the message before it and the message after it (in the same
thread), and readers could press a different key (other than for next and
previous) to follow one specific thread.  Would this be hard to implement?
I thought of it when thinking about sometimes lots of people give the same
answer to a question because they don't read the messages of those that
have replied before them.

Actually, isn't this basically implemented on the MLUG website archives
already?  I personally would prefer a text-based option for this though..
